Dear parents / guardians, All through life we belong to different teams, and it is the concept behind the team approach that makes for a successful school. A famous NBA coach once said, “being a winner is largely dependent upon teamwork and not on the individual talents of any one person. You must be able to work with those around you to achieve a common goal” I believe these words to be true and I believe that here in Hasbrouck Heights, especially at Euclid School, that positive things happen because of the collective efforts of our team members. Who are these members? They are the Superintendent, the Board of Education, community organizations, the PTA, the staff, and you, the parents. When a team like ours works interdependently and we keep an open mind, our thoughts become actions, and our students excel. This year, as a team, we must continue to define our expectations, to create goals and to model exemplary behavior. As a team, we must continue to reflect on our accomplishments and downfalls, to identify what can be done to improve our effectiveness, and to always stay focused on the most important thing, which is our children. I ask you to make a conscious decision this evening to be a part of the Euclid team, to be a positive force for Euclid school and to be a positive role model for our Euclid students. I know we have a winning team and I am counting on us to strive together to help our students develop into productive and compassionate adults. Respectfully, Mrs. Simmons

Sticks Two Teams of Euclid Teachers Awarded Grants Euclid Elementary
School has announced that two teams of teachers are the recipients
of the NJEA Frederick L. Hipp Foundation for Excellence in Education
grant for the 2007-2008 school year. Fifth grade teachers, Mrs. Cintron,
Mrs. Drago, and Mrs. Searle, created and developed a program entitled
Science Happenings. As a team, Mrs. Dubofsky, second grade teacher,
and Mrs. McSweeney, kindergarten teacher, created a program entitled
Have Math Will Travel. The fifth grade team was awarded $9,000 to use toward technology for the implementation of the Science Happenings program. Mrs. Dubofsky and Mrs. McSweeney were awarded $9,500 to execute their program. With encouragement and support from Euclid School's principal, Mrs. Simmons, these projects will be implemented in the upcoming school year. The fifth grade students will create a magazine entitled Science Happenings with guidance from their teachers. This project will allow the students to publish a magazine entirely of curriculum based science activities and projects. Technology will be used to complete the activities and projects. Mrs. Cintron, Mrs. Drago, and Mrs. Searle anticipate a wonderful learning experience for the students and an ongoing professional development experience for themselves. Have Math Will Travel will allow Mrs. Dubofsky and Mrs. McSweeney the opportunity to offer the children a hands on connection of math and mapping skills. All the children in each class will receive a small suitcase filled with math manipulatives, local maps, and an atlas. The children will take walking trips around town to enhance their math and mapping skills. Watch for the children traveling around town with their suitcases during the 2007-2008 school year.
